Initiated by Amanda Niescior from Knysna and her two friends Lani Piek and her sister Alice Piek, the young women raised R1 128 in less than an hour for Joost van der Westhuizen’s J9 Foundation.
This foundation raises money for people with motor neuron disease. The happy group of friends were challenged by friends on Facebook and Twitter and they participated individually.
“We then thought it will be 'wow' to get the community involved and we spread the news. A lot of people turned out, donated and had fun,” says Niescior enthusiastically.
“It is great to see how a community can come together and make a difference. They just need the opportunity, it seems!”
