"The Knysna detective branch is investigating a case of culpable homicide following the death of a five-year-old boy at Balie Street, Concordia, Knysna on Thursday, August 4 at about 16:10.

"It is alleged the boy was cycling in the street, with a friend, when he was hit by a construction vehicle from behind. This vehicle drove over the boy and came to a standstill against an electrical pole. The boy died on the scene.

"All the circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and the vehicle will be kept until a mechanical investigation has been conducted, " said Spies.

The family’s spokesperson, Magdalene Moos, said, “We are still grief-stricken and ask you to please respect us during this time.”

The distraught Moos said they are busy with funeral arrangements and dealing with the loss internally, and will reach out to the media when the time is right.
