PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Art lovers can look forward to a diverse celebration of creativity when the Plettenberg Bay Arts Association presents two major exhibitions as part of the Plett Arts Festival from 25 September to 4 October.
The exhibitions, titled The White House Collection and Community Canvas, will offer contrasting yet complementary platforms that highlight both established and emerging artistic talent from the region.
Hosted at The White House venue, The White House Collection will feature a selection of works by established artists in a sophisticated gallery environment. The exhibition will focus on high-quality, collectable artworks and will be overseen by a panel of respected art professionals.
The curatorial panel includes Cape Town-based art advisor and curator Barbara Lenhard, a director of The Artists Gallery and 33BREE, who has played a key role in promoting South African art internationally through The Travelling Art Gallery in Europe.
Joining her is acclaimed South African fine artist and educator Elize Bezuidenhout, whose portrait and character studies have earned recognition in several prestigious national competitions, including the Sanlam Portrait Awards and the Vuleka Art Competition.
The third panel member is Dallas Smith, an established artist whose work has become closely associated with Plettenberg Bay and Knysna over the past 25 years. His distinctive interpretations of the region have attracted collectors from around the world.
According to organisers, the panel brings a wealth of curatorial expertise, artistic achievement and local insight to the selection process.
In contrast, Community Canvas at the Plett Community Hall will provide an open and inclusive space for artists of all experience levels. Designed to encourage participation and interaction, the exhibition will feature artworks alongside live demonstrations, workshops and a lively market-style atmosphere.
Organisers say the two-exhibition format reflects the association's commitment to celebrating artistic excellence while also creating opportunities for broader community involvement in the arts.
Further details, including participating artists and programme highlights, will be announced in the months leading up to the festival.
