KNYSNA NEWS - Two people aged 20 and 19 were arrested for possession of drugs by the Knysna Crime Prevention Unit in separate incidents on Saturday and Sunday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies said vigilant members of the Knysna Police Crime Prevention Unit were strategically deployed in crime hotspots when they arrested two suspects after drugs were found in their possession.
"The members were patrolling Stroebel Street in Hornlee on Saturday 13 February at about 02:15 when they saw a man walking in the street. Upon noticing the police he fled into a yard and a chase ensued and he was found hiding in the yard," he said.
Spies said a search of the man resulted in the discovery of small amounts of drugs (Mandrax tablets) and an amount of cash in his possession.
"The 20-year old suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs," he said.
In another incident the same members continued with the operation in Rheenendal on 14 February. At about 04:30 they followed up on a tip-off from the public about a man at the bus stop on Main Street. "Upon searching the man they found 56 bankies of dagga in a bag. The police arrested the suspect (19) on a charge of dealing in drugs," said Spies.
Spies said both suspects were due to appear in court on mentioned charges.
