PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Bitou had a visit from students of the Saldanha Bay Military Academy last week to discuss the very popular annual Trans Enduro, which is expected to make another stop in Plettenberg Bay later this year.
The purpose of the meeting was to engage the municipality on the local leg of their annual tour, which will take place on Plett's Central Beach on 28 November.
The Military Trans Enduro is a historical event where students from the academy visit coastal towns including Gqeberha, Jeffreys Bay, Plettenberg Bay and George before heading back to Saldanha Bay. Students cycle, run and sail between the different towns.
While this is physically a very challenging tour, it also offers the students an opportunity
to have fun, network, raise funds and get involved in community outreach activities.
This year the students will prioritise community projects that focus on the elderly and disabled. Engagement with learners in the high schools will also form part of the visit.
The students will be doing fundraising in strategic areas such as major shopping centres.
The money raised is invested back into community outreach activities.
Both the mayor, Dave Swart, and the municipal manager, Mbulelo Memani, gave their commitment and their support to the event.
Key staff of the municipality will be assigned to make sure that the event is even more successful than the previous years.
