KNYSNA NEWS - A routine traffic stop in Main Street N2 turned violent last night, 3 March, between 22:00 and 23:00, when a traffic officer was allegedly hit by a fleeing motorist at Knysna Mall.
According to reliable information, the officer first spotted the vehicle, occupied by two men, on the N2 ignoring a red traffic signal.
Traffic officials attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver allegedly refused to stop, initiating a chase.
The pursuit ended at the mall, where the vehicle became trapped due to the lack of an exit.
It is understood that the traffic officer exited his patrol vehicle and approached the driver with the intention of issuing a fine. At that point, the driver allegedly accelerated and drove into the officer, leaving him seriously injured.
The driver with the passenger fled the scene but was reportedly arrested within two hours at Buffalo Bay. Police have not yet released the names of the suspects.
The injured officer was transported to hospital for medical treatment. His condition has not yet been confirmed.
An enquiry has been sent to police for official comment regarding the charges the suspects may face and the condition of the officer. The response will be published once received.
