PLETTENBERG BAY NEWSFLASH - Bitou’s leadership has embarked on a “house cleaning” operation by calling on an independent forensic investigator to look into claims of maladministration and misconduct by senior officials.
As a first step the municipality has placed its municipal manager and head of corporate services – Thabo Ndlovu and Vuyokazi Mbelani – on precautionary suspension.
DA caucus leader in Bitou, Bill Nel said that during a council meeting on Friday December 6, 2017 a decision had been taken to suspend the two officials.
“Council further resolved to appoint an independent forensic investigator to investigate alleged maladministration and misconduct by senior officials,” Nel said.
Nel added that the forensic investigator had to complete the investigation within 30 days from the precautionary suspension of the two officials.
“Council also approached the Western Cape Minister of Local Government [Anton Bredell] to second experienced officials to Bitou to act in a number of vacancies that have arisen over the past few months.”
This follows a series of political issues in Bitou in recent weeks including a failed motion of no confidence by the ANC in mayor Peter Lobese on December 5, 2017.
