KNYSNA NEWS - A total of 22 households in Knysna received their title deeds at a ceremony held at the Hornlee Civic Centre last week.
Attending the event were Dr Brian Benfield of the Free Market Foundation; municipal manager Lulamile Mapholoba; executive mayor Aubrey Tsengwa; Dr Richard Martin, the new director of integrated human settlements; and councillors Thando Matika, Mark Willemse, Russell Arends, Kay Andrews and Sharon Sabbagh.
Collaborative effort
The event highlighted a collaborative effort with the Free Market Foundation and Khaya Lam, organisations committed to assisting municipalities across the Western Cape in addressing title deed backlogs.
With a proven track record in municipalities such as Stellenbosch and Theewaterskloof, the Free Market Foundation and Khaya Lam were approached by councillor Willemse to help reduce Knysna municipality's title deed backlog.
Sustainable development
An MOU was signed earlier this year, and the handover of the title deeds represents the first wave of title deeds issued under this partnership.
This initiative not only secures homeownership for beneficiaries but also strengthens the foundation for sustainable development within the municipality.
