KNYSNA NEWS - As per the annual tradition, Oakhill College's matric art students will be putting their work on display from Thursday, 22 October.
Pablo Picasso said, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working", and when you experience the visual feast that is Oakhill School's IEB Matric Art Exhibition, you will no doubt agree that you are glimpsing the creative worlds of nine young artists who have worked exceptionally hard during an extremely difficult time.
The power of the visual arts to enrich human experience and society is recognised and celebrated through the works of Chloé de Villiers, Catherine Donnell, Nicholas Hill, Jennifer Moyo, Viggo Platt, Amy Redman, Erin Rupert, Mathilda Sullivan and Madison Turner.
The exhibition showcases their year and examination work, created in response to two themes. The theme for the year work was "Outside the Centre". Viewing the students' responses to this theme highlights the fact that there is much outside the "centre", if we just look.
The theme for their examination work was "20/20 Vision". Through their work they have shown much debate about the future and analysis of the past, and highlighted the changes that are imminent for humanity.
The students have engaged their minds to explore their own reactions to the given themes and to articulate them through the medium of their choice. Oakhill invites the Garden Route community to come enjoy this visual feast on display at the upper level of the Knysna Mall, above the escalators.
Oakhill is very grateful to Excellerate Real Estate Services (JHI) for hosting this year's event, especially given the large volumes of work to exhibit.
The exhibition will be open to the public until Saturday 31 October (closed on Sundays).
