KNYSNA NEWS - Police arrested three suspected drug dealers in Knysna on Thursday 27 June. At 07:00 on the day, armed with a search and seizure warrant, members of the Garden Route District Crime Combating Team (GRDCCT) went to a home in Thula Street, White Location, Knysna.
The members of the team, deployed to Knysna as part of Operation Shanela - a campaign by police to rid communities of drugs and to eradicate substance abuse - allegedly found a small black bag containing mandrax tablets concealed in a bathroom.
The officers confiscated 504 mandrax tablets and arrested a Nigerian man (43) on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Soon afterwards, at about 7.30am, the team, with another search and seizure warrant, went to a house in Concordia, Knysna.
The officers allegedly found 235 mandrax tablets at the residence. They confiscated the drugs and arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian national and a 23-year-old woman, each on a charge of dealing in drugs.
This week, in Kwanonqaba, Mossel Bay, police seized tik, heroin and mandrax tablets, and arrested two suspects.
In Pacaltsdorp, George, on Wednesday 26 June, GRDCCT members arrested five suspects for drug-related offences, two for possession of dangerous weapons, and one suspect wanted on outstanding warrants of arrest.
Small quantities of tik and mandrax as well as a panga were confiscated during the operation.
All those arrested will appear in court once formally charged.
