KNYSNA NEWS - Police last week arrested three suspects after they were found to be in possession of several items of clothing and other property believed to be stolen.
They appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Thursday 9 June on charges of possession of stolen property.
"Rural Flying Squad members responded to information on a vehicle involved in shoplifting at various shops in the central business district of Knysna earlier [in] the week," said Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies.
"The members, assisted by a local security company and CCTV footage, tracked down the vehicle when it entered the industrial area."
The vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was searched and police found clothing worth an estimated R8 000, sellotape and branded plastic bags of a courier company concealed in the back.
Police also seized R14 450 worth of cash, believed to be the proceeds of illicit activities, in their possession. "The recovered items were linked to three clothing stores in the CBD," Spies said.
During their court appearance two of the accused, a woman (31) and a man (32), were released on R2 000 bail each. "The third accused, a 60-year-old woman, remains in custody.
She is scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on 17 June for a formal bail application," Spies said.
"The strategic deployment of Rural Flying Squad members along the highways is paying dividends. It is in line with policing priorities to eradicate the illicit flow of presumed stolen goods, drugs and firearms into the Western Cape."
