PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - To raise awareness about the changing cannabis legislation in South Africa and attract more visitors to Plettenberg Bay during the quieter tourism period, organisers of the Garden Route Cannabis Cup and Expo have decided to host its third annual event in August this year.
They said that the event was designed to raise awareness about legislation regarding cannabis and to highlight its applications and the economic possibilities of the cannabis market.
It also aims to promote exposure for growers and to increase visitor traffic and business during the winter period along the Garden Route.
This year's expo will be held on 5 and 6 August at the Piesang Valley Community Hall in Plettenberg Bay.
Among the presenters will be Simon Strainhunter of Strain Hunters - a series of documentaries aimed at informing the public about the preservation of the cannabis plant in the form of particularly vulnerable landraces.
Other speakers include Myrtle Clark, known as part of the "dagga couple" and managing director of Fields of Green for All; and Jeremy Acton, founder of the Dagga Party.
They will also be joined by Gareth Prince who has been fighting to decriminalise cannabis for more than two decades, cannabis promotor Chris Jay and well-known traditional doctor, Sister Vee Nohomile Bush.
"The GRCC is becoming an annual affair on the Garden Route and is growing both in popularity and participation," organisers said. For more information contact Megan Steyn via e-mail at infocbdcare@gmail.com or 082 330 2611.
