PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Criminals took advantage of the stormy weather over the past weekend, leading to several incidents of theft in and around Plettenberg Bay.
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) chairperson Logan Harris said copper theft was "taken to another level" on Sunday when an entire water hydrant head was stolen on Airport Road.
The suspects also vandalised a cold-room on a farm in the area when they stole copper pipes. "The damage to property and disruption caused by copper thieves needs to be addressed," Harris said.
Thieves did not stop at copper theft on Sunday. Various items were also stolen from T'Niqua Stable Inn on Airport Road. Police however received information that stolen goods were being sold in Kranshoek and responded. A suspect was arrested.
Harris also said goods were stolen from the Uitsig Farm and surrounding areas.
Police received information in this regard and off-duty police officers and municipal law enforcement officers managed to recover a large number of stolen items. "Unfortunately the hydrant head was not recovered."
