KNYSNA NEWS - An 18-year-old matric student at Knysna High School is using his love for music and "freedom rap" to share positive messages among teens and to "uplift the younger generation" so that they can be steered away from violence and drugs.
Likamva Machu started off by garnering a fan base at his own school but has now secured bookings at other schools in Knysna and surrounds and hopes this will be the perfect catalyst to get his name out there. Likamva, who also goes by name Acidiq Truth, describes himself as an Eastern Cape-born jazz and hip-hop artist from Humansdorp.
He says he started writing music at age 10 for his own amusement but started taking it more seriously some years later. "When I was 15 years old my family moved to Knysna and here I found there were a lot of studios where I could record," the youngster says.
A career kicks off…
He then started working with local artists such as Chowder, Cocaina Bag and Tyler Tonic to name a few. In October last year he was also interviewed on Good Hope FM along with other local artists.
"That helped to start what I call 'my career'. I performed for the school and students continue to react positively to my music and my fan base is growing," Likamva says.
He calls his music "freedom rap" because it is "all about empowerment and as a teen I try to inspire other teens who are going through life".
"At the start of the new year I had a plan to tour schools around the Eastern and Western Cape, starting with Knysna schools. The tour is called Destination Happy", he says. "I want to reach people emotionally and spiritually. The message is clear: we want to uplift our community."
