REGIONAL NEWS - Famsa Knysna is raising awareness and providing support to victims of gender-based violence and femicide during the 16 Days of Activism campaign from 25 November to 10 December, while reminding the community that GBV is prevalent throughout the year.
The organisation works to help victims of all forms of abuse, including women, children, men, the elderly, disabled individuals, and LGBTQI+ community members.
Famsa offers therapeutic intervention and assistance, with two dedicated staff members and a 24/7 hotline staffed by social workers – 072 847 0322 (Knysna), 079 640 6883 (Plett).
The organisation works closely with the police, the Department of Health and Armed Response Units to ensure victims receive necessary follow-up therapeutic services.
They also offer various programmes and services to support victims of crime, abuse, and domestic violence, including training programmes, workshops, and counselling sessions.
Their gender-based violence education workshops and men's programmes help address abuse in communities and homes and provide parenting programmes that help parents explore alternatives to corporal punishment and violent parenting.
