PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - After the arrival of spring, excitement is building up over the 11th annual Plett Arts Festival, with starts on Friday 20 September in Plettenberg Bay.
"A vibrant tapestry of creativity, conversation and entertainment is about to unfold from 20 to 29 September 2024 in Plettenberg Bay.
"From the serene shores of the lagoon, through Plett's vibrant neighbourhoods to the bustling town centre, the artistic spirit of our coastal gem comes alive," Plett Tourism's Cindy Wilson-Trollip said.
'Extravaganza'
She added the 10-day "extravaganza" promised an immersive experience of arts and culture including exhibitions from local and visiting artists - curated to provide a visually engaging experience.
Performances will include shows by comedian Kurt Schoonraad, and musicians Mel Botes and Jo Black.
"Workshops and talks on the calendar cover a fascinating variety of topics sure to delight the curious mind. This year's Plett Land Art Route will pop up at the exquisite locations of Brackenburn Private Nature Reserve, Bronze Fields Farm and Plett's beaches and lagoons during a festival themed 'Connect in Plett,'" Wilson-Trollip said.
Vibrant art
Plettenberg Bay's Main Street will once again become alive with vibrant art during the Plett Arts Twilight Meander. This is also where the festival will official open on 20 September.
The Plett Arts Twilight Meander will include exhibition openings, conversations with artists, live performances and other "delectable treats".
Visitors will also be able to connect with friends and family through comedy, poetry, music, design and other shows and events. The programme includes rock performances, and dancing with local DJs.
'Insightful discussions'
Festinos will also be able to connect through workshops and conversations led by renowned artists and leaders in the field.
"You can engage in insightful discussions and hands-on learning experiences on topics including sculpting, ceramics, local and palaeontological history, virtual reality, visual language, and more," she said.
Another way to engage with the theme, "Connect", will be through the Plett Land Art Route, where visitors and locals can "connect" with nature.
"It is a unique opportunity to explore scenic spaces in Plett while exploring the Land Art installations organised by Plett Art Residency in collaboration with Plett Tourism."
Land artists in attendance will include Yoko Reijn, Zbys Kaczmarek, Derek Saul and Janet Ranson, among many others.
"Land Art will be on show at selected locations on specific days; visitors are encouraged to check the map on the Plett Arts Festival website or visit the Land Art Hub at The Junction Boutique Hotel," Wilson-Trollip said.Over 70 exhibitions, workshops, shows and events will be part of the Plett Arts Festival in 2024. Another way of "connecting" is with artists from across South Africa through exhibitions. "The Plett Arts Festival is a testament to the thriving arts scene in South Africa and its ability to inspire, connect, and transform."
More than 70 exhibitions
Exhibitions will be hosted at a variety of venues including at the Plettenberg Bay Arts Association in Piesang Valley Hall, the Dallas Smith Gallery, Milkwood Gallery and other galleries and shops on Plett's Main Street.
"With over 70 exhibitions, shows, talks and events throughout the 10-day festival, each will be an intriguing adventure through a world of colour, conversation and creativity surrounded by the exquisite beauty of South Africa's favourite playground."
