PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - It was with great excitement that the mayor of Bitou municipality was able to welcome the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) training command units and students from the military academy in the city on Sunday 26 November 2017.
Their visit was the first ever Mr and Miss Trans Enduro which was attended by the Bitou municipality executive mayor councillor Peter Lobese.
In his address the mayor pledged to make this event a municipal annual event and said the council would put it on their budget next financial year as “the event will provide the local youth with opportunities to be involved community development programme.”

The students and commandant gathered at the main beach on Monday 27 November to launch the next leg of the exercise to George.
Students exhibited their sporting capabilities which included extensive military exercises with two inflatable rubber ducks and 10 mountain bikes runners which will travel the N2 and subordinate roads leading to and fro the N2 to end up in Saldahna Bay on the 2 of December 2017.
The aim of the exercise is to provide military training to the students of the military academy, in order to enhance command and control as well as military leadership skills.
The first leg of the exercise took place on Friday 24 November at Port Elizabeth and proceeded to Jeffrey’s Bay and the exercise will end on 2nd December 2017 in Saldanah Bay
Lobese thanked the military academy for choosing the town of Plettenberg Bay to be one to the towns chosen to host the Trans Enduro exercise and said next year will be even bigger as the municipality will involve local teachers and more schools.
“I am really touched by the social responsibility programme of the exercise as the students are really doing something great by helping out in the community and we would really like to make this part of our municipal program as it doesn’t only benefit the municipality but the country at large” said the mayor.
The student team Masiza went out to Kwanokuthula police station to paint the container used as one of the offices for the child abuse cases as part of their support for the 16 days of activism against woman and child abuse.
The Mayor says he was delighted with by the relationship between the department of defence and the municipality and they are really looking forward to hosting this event for next 50 years.
The students went around the streets of the city in order to raise funds for the Maties Community Service of Stellenbosch University for welfare projects.
