PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Sipho Yoywana (29), an aspiring football analyst from Plett, has taken a significant step towards his dream of developing young talent in the Eden Region.
Yoywana recently spoke to Knysna-Plett Herald following his successful completion of a professional analyst and talent scout course, a qualification he believes will help identify and nurture promising footballers, particularly in rural communities.
Yoywana completed the course through SM Sport Consultants at the Sunnyside Park Hotel in Parktown, Johannesburg, where he spent several days honing his skills and gaining industry insight.
Rubbing shoulders with industry leaders
During the programme, Yoywana had the opportunity to engage with several respected figures in South African football, including Thera Maliwa, Sinesipho Mali, Abdul Faisal Chibsah, David Notoane, Molefi Tseki, Tinashe Makhandatsama, Raymond Mdaka and Goolam Valodia.
The experience, he said, provided valuable exposure and reinforced his ambition to contribute meaningfully to football development at grassroots level.
Focus on developing rural talent
Originally from Kwanokuthula, Yoywana is passionate about unlocking opportunities for young players who often go unnoticed.
"There are many diamonds in our district who need to be protected and properly developed to achieve their football dreams," he said.
A former learner of Murray High School, where he completed his matric in 2018, Yoywana believes the area has the potential to produce talent across various fields.
He emphasised that commitment, dedication, discipline and desire are key ingredients for success in sport and hopes to use his qualification to scout raw talent in rural areas and connect players with bigger platforms.
Yoywana also offered advice to aspiring footballers, encouraging them to remain focused and resilient.
"If you want to achieve in life, do not give up easily. Keep pushing, go the extra mile and believe that you will make it," he said.
He warned that many promising careers are lost to social challenges such as drug and substance abuse, adding that he hopes to steer young players away from such pitfalls.
