KNYSNA NEWS - "Winning this award three times in a row is more than just a title; it is a celebration of our unique community spirit and the strong bonds that unite us. Knysna's true beauty lies in its people, and this recognition underscores the passion and dedication that our community embodies every day," said mayor Aubrey Tsengwa, shortly after the town was voted as the KFM Best Dorpie of the Year - for the third year in a row.
The title forms part of radio station KFM's annual Best of the Cape Awards.
Knysna faced stiff competition in the Best Dorpie category from Yzerfontein, Robertson, Montagu and Tulbagh.
A chuffed Tsengwa added that this remarkable achievement was a testament "to the unwavering support and love from the town's residents, visitors, and KFM voters".
"Knysna's appeal extends far beyond its borders, remaining a favourite destination for both local and international visitors.
"Our unique blend of forest, lagoon, and ocean, combined with world-class events and festivals throughout the year, continues to captivate the hearts of those who experience it.
"The most famous of these is the Knysna Oyster Festival, held in July, which is a must-visit event featuring sports, food, and entertainment for all ages.
"Each season brings its own unique events, such as the Garden Route Festival of Books in autumn, the Knysna Motor Show, Simola Hillclimb, and the Knysna Blues Festival during the summer months, ensuring there is always something exciting to experience in Knysna."
Tsengwa also acknowledged the local tourism office's role in Knysna obtaining this award.
"Their continuous work is vital to enhance the visitor experience, by introducing new attractions and promoting responsible tourism.
"Regular feedback from visitors and residents helps us adapt to changing tourism trends and visitor expectations, ensuring that Knysna remains relevant and appealing.
"Our strong focus on preserving the natural environment and promoting local products has created a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the community and our visitors. This victory for Knysna is a victory for every one of us.
"It highlights our collective efforts in showcasing the best of what our town and its people have to offer. We also extend our heartfelt congratulations to all our local finalists, who have represented Knysna with distinction in their respective categories.
"As we celebrate this achievement, we remain committed to our core values of being inclusive, innovative, and inspired. These principles guide us as we continue to work together, moving forward as a community that thrives on unity and shared purpose."
Not everyone is thrilled
As with most things in life, not everyone is thrilled about Knysna winning the title once more, with some complaining about several sewage leaks in the town.
"Despite the challenges we are facing in Knysna that should be dealt with, it doesn't mean that we should slate our town over it. Evidently people and tourists still enjoy and love our town. This is an award everyone should take," said one online post.
