KNYSNA NEWS - The Sedgefield Lions Club recently donated 50 new single waterproof mattress protectors to the Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch.
Ashleigh Smith, marketing and fundraising officer at the Epilepsy South Cape/Karoo Branch, said the donation was not just about protecting their mattresses but also about providing a higher degree of comfort and hygiene for residents at their residential care facility.
"This generous contribution will greatly assist in prolonging the life of the organisation's Cloud 9 mattresses, ensuring greater comfort and quality of care for the 50 adults who call the charity's 24/7 residential care facility home.
Specialised care
"The mattress protectors, which are both waterproof and durable, will help maintain the cleanliness and integrity of the mattresses, which are crucial to the daily comfort of the residents - many of whom live with debilitating epilepsy and other neurological disabilities."
The Epilepsy SA South Cape/Karoo Branch, based in Knysna has been in operation since 1985, offering specialised care for adults with neurological disabilities.
Range of services
The charity provides not only 24/7 residential care, but also runs a range of community services, including a day-care programme for adults with disabilities including adult literacy and numeracy classes, and various social work and support group services.
The organisation is deeply embedded in the community, working tirelessly to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding epilepsy.
'Shining example'
"The Sedgefield Lions' donation is an example of the incredible support we receive from local organisations and this donation is a shining example of what can be accomplished when local organisations work together.
"We remain committed to raising awareness about epilepsy and providing crucial support to families and individuals living with neurological conditions throughout the Garden Route," said Smith.
