KNYSNA NEWS - A security supervisor, Shadrach Dingiswayo (47) from Golden Security, was arrested on Friday 11 July on corruption charges and was scheduled to appear in court later that day.
The Hawks' George-based Serious Crime Corruption Investigation team reportedly began probing Dingiswayo in January, after a report was received that he had required R1 500 from the complainant in exchange for renewing their contract with the security company.
Further investigation by the Hawks brought to light that Dingiswayo had allegedly accepted payments of R1 500 each from various individuals.
As probes into this matter progressed, the Hawks uncovered that there were more than one complainant who had refused to pay.
The contracts of these complainants were not renewed, while others who had paid, did have their contracts renewed.
The complainants have since launched an unfair dismissal claim at the CCMA, intensifying scrutiny of the case.
According to one of the complainants, Anelisa Sirenya, her demands were met with accusations of misconduct, and she was then called into a disciplinary hearing on 13 August 2024.
According to the notice of the disciplinary hearing, Sirenya and the six other Grade C security complainants appeared before the CCMA commissioner on 23 January this year.
A document from the CCMA, in the possession of Knysna-Plett Herald, confirmed that the dismissals of the seven complainants were procedurally and substantively unfair.
Furthermore, the document states that the complainants must be paid R35 130 each. The document ordered that the payout be made by Golden Security Services by 14 February this year, but this has not yet realised.
The case has since been sent to the bargaining council, according to Sirenya.
While the complainants await payment from Golden Security Services, Dingizwayo has been released on R10 000 bail and is expected to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on 5 August.
