KNYSNA NEWS - The municipality's joint operations centre (JOC) says as part of an ongoing commitment to ensuring reliable access to water in affected areas, a revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for water deliveries has been implemented with immediate effect.
The centre said in a statement issued jointly with Knysna Municipality, the Garden Route District Municipality, and the Western Cape government, that key SOP changes include:
- All empty tankers and those in the process of filling will now operate according to the updated delivery protocol
- Tankers are to move slowly through residential areas, hooting at regular intervals and stopping approximately every 100m or as needed, to allow residents to collect water
- Residents are kindly requested to place their buckets or containers outside to signal their need for water. Their co-operation is essential to ensure efficient and fair distribution.
- Water delivery hours remain from 06:00 to 22:00 daily
Zone 1/ward 10
One dedicated water tanker is assigned to zone 1/ward 10.
The assigned truck will roam the following areas throughout the day:
- All streets surrounding Hill, Voortrekker, Templeman, and Edwards streets
- The previous designated pick-up point will still be serviced; however, if no residents are present or waiting, the truck will only stop for a few minutes before moving on to cover more ground
Residents are urged to remain alert and make use of the roaming service by ensuring containers are clearly visible from the street.
Rheenendal water supply
- Two dedicated water tankers continue to serve the Rheenendal area
- These trucks will roam throughout the community throughout the day to ensure widespread access
- Between 18:00 and 20:00, residents will have access to direct water supply. After 20:00, the system will be closed to allow reservoir levels to recover and stabilise
An additional truck is available to support areas in need across the municipality, with priority given to special-care areas in the mornings.
Status of infrastructure repairs
