KNYSNA NEWS - The call for reconciliation remains a far-fetched dream to Knysna locals who woke up to the sad passing of ward 8 councillor Mzukisi Victor Molosi on Tuesday last week.
Molosi was gunned down outside his house in Concordia on Monday 23 July.
The mood was sombre at the Knysna Primary School yesterday as family, friends, colleagues and the community of the greater Knysna attended a memorial in honour of 'Freeze', as he was affectionately known.
Knysna municipality and the Eden District Municipality, in a joint effort, organised the memorial service on Tuesday 31 July and various speakers took to the stage and attested that Molosi was a humble selfless leader, an activist, strategist, a mediator and a servant at heart.
Learners from Concordia High School sang songs personalised to Molosi, thanking him for his service to the school and that his legacy will live on.
Knysna municipality's director of community services, Dawid Adonis said the tragic passing has left everyone with a numbness and that he doesn't know how to respond to it: "The death of Molosi reminded us of our diversity and right to have different views when we debate. It reminded us about the acute needs of our communities, different dynamics more so on the Nothern areas... how do we as Knysna municipality move beyond this tragedy, how do ensure the legacy of Molosi lives on?"
Adonis said Molosi secured development in his ward for more than R120 million, that 700 houses were built under his leadership and that he was instrumental in the building of Concordia High School: "He convinced soccer teams to sacrifice land in order for the school to be built."
ANC chief whip Titi Gombo also took to stage and shared a few words about Freeze. Gombo said having been born in Knysna she has witnessed every development and that Molosi has always been part of these developments.
Gombo shared with the attendees some of her fondest moments in council and outside of council with the late Molosi and said she is because he was.
She said when she heard the news she collapsed, "I don't know what happened between then and the time I woke up. I have one son aged 28 who also has one baby, I would've been okay with dying instead of Molosi, who has four young children."
Gombo said, "To Molosi's murderer, I am sorry for whatever he did to you, please forgive him and please forgive me."
The chief whip said she is well aware that the Bible says people must forgive, "but this wound is too deep."
Tonight, the ANC will be paying homage to Freeze at Concordia Hight School at 17:30.
