KNYSNA NEWS - Only a week after this paper reported that an 18-year-old matric student at Knysna High School is using his love of music to share positive messages among teens and "uplift the younger generation" so they can be steered away from violence and drugs, it turns out the young star was "uplifting" students in a different way.
On Thursday last week the newspaper learned that Likamva Machu, who goes by the now more appropriate than ever stage name Acidiq Truth, was allegedly suspended from the school for dealing in drugs.
Likamva confirmed the allegations and said subsequent to his suspension he decided to relocate to Johannesburg "to regroup while staying with my father". He said he needed to raise funds for his career and saw "dealing" as a quick means. "Little did I know about the consequences."
He is now looking for a placement at a school, he said. The rapper said he intends to visit Knysna sometime in the future and turn his misfortune into someone else's light by doing talks at the area's high schools, about the dangers and consequences of dealing and using drugs. "And, of course, share my truth, the only I know how – through music."
Schools principal Mark Mosdell said the school is busy with disciplinary processes and declined to comment further.
