KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna was left crippled once again this morning when protesters set out to shut down the N2 in Nekkies, restricting traffic flow to and from Plettenberg Bay.
According to residents in the area, protesters began converging on the scene at about 05:00 this morning. They soon began burning various materials in an attempt to block off and shut down the road.
They achieved their goal and for the next few hours the N2 would be closed off with no traffic flow whatsoever.
The police's Public Order Policing (POP) unit was dispatched from George just after 07:00 and arrived on scene just after 08:00.
Thereafter the situation was swiftly dealt with and brought under control.
Traffic was reopened with one lane in either direction at 09:00, with both lanes opening at 09:30.
The protests are believed to have been motivated by a number of reasons, with the main issues seeming to pertain to poor living conditions.
