KNYSNA NEWS - Fraaisig Primary School and Sedgefield Primary School emerged as the champions of the 2026 Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (Kilt) U13 Boys and Girls Rugby Tournament held at Loerie Park Stadium this past Saturday.
The tournament, hosted by Kilt in partnership with the Knysna Sport Academy, brought together young rugby talent from schools across the region. Red Cross Knysna provided first-aid services throughout the tournament.
In the boys' competition, Fraaisig Primary booked their place in the final with a convincing 31-12 victory over Sedgefield Primary in the first semi-final. Chris Nissen Primary secured the second final berth after edging Rheenendal Primary 31-24 in a closely contested encounter.
The final produced another strong perfor-mance from Fraaisig, who defeated Chris Nissen 29-19 to claim the title and be crowned 2026 Kilt U13 Boys champions.
The girls' competition also delivered exciting rugby. Sedgefield Primary advanced to the final with a commanding 30-7 win over Sunridge Primary, while Chris Nissen Primary overcame Fraaisig Primary 21-10 in the second semi-final.
The Sedgefield girls carried their momentum into the final, producing a disciplined defensive display to defeat Chris Nissen 17-0 and secure the 2026 Kilt U13 Girls Championship.
The organisers described the tournament as a successful celebration of school rugby and youth sport, and praised the enthusiasm of players and the support received from those in attendance.
Special appreciation was also extended to Luweghan Calvert who recorded the matches and made them available on YouTube, allowing players, families and supporters to relive the day's action.
