KNYSNA NEWS - The weather may have been cold, but spirits were high as the Knysna Older Persons Forum recently hosted a vibrant Active Ageing Games event at Loerie Park.
Led by chairperson Ivan Harker and his team, the event was organised in partnership with Knysna Municipality, the Department of Social Development, the police, the Community Policing Forum, Safe Hub, SGT Media Productions, H.S. Perks & Sons, and members of the Plettenberg Bay Elderly Forum.
The event was officially opened by Mayor Thando Matika and other guest speakers, who emphasised the importance of active ageing, healthy living and ensuring senior citizens remain valued and engaged members of their communities.
On behalf of Knysna Municipality, Matika and Lisel Baadjies donated sporting equipment to participants, reaffirming the municipality's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and active participation among older persons.
After enjoying a warm bowl of soup to ward off the winter chill, participants enthusiastically took part in a variety of activities, including relay races, duck walks, brisk walks, field events and other fun games that filled the morning with laughter.
Baadjies thanked the many stakeholders, volunteers, sponsors and community partners whose support made the event possible.
"Together, we continue to build a caring and inclusive community where our senior citizens are celebrated, respected and empowered," she said.
