PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Plettenberg Bay Golf and Country Club (PBGCC) has made a donation of comfort packages to the Plettenberg Bay Victim Friendly Room, housed in the Plett police station.
The room provides a safe and dignified space for children and gender-based violence victims when they report crimes.
On Friday 23 May, chairperson of the PBGCC Barbi May, along with staff from the club, delivered 47 comfort packs containing shampoos, creams, soap and toothpaste to benefit victims referred to the facility.
Blown away
May says the PBGCC realised the need to support this facility and funded the donation from its annual charity golf day, hosted by the club.
"I was made aware of the victim-friendly room at the Plett police station a while ago and was completely blown away with how beautifully it had been appointed.
"After meeting with Sergeant Mvuyisiwabantu Tukani, he identified the need for comfort packs for the victims," she says.
"We hosted a golf festival at the end of April. The proceeds of the event always goes to a charity.Being in a position to buy these comfort packs, meant that PBGCC could give back to the Plett community.
"It is important that the good work that our local police are doing is highlighted."
Trauma
Lieutenant Colonel Sharnla Solomon, commander of the visual policing unit (Vispol), said the donation was much appreciated as it will allow crime victims to freshen up.
"Victims of sexual abuse the are most vulnerable and emotional and the counselling they receive in the victim room means they can be relieved of some of the trauma they have experienced," said Solomon.
