PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Despite massive opposition to the release of a 29-year-old Plettenberg Bay man on bail following his arrest in connection with the alleged rape of a teenage girl last year, the man was released on R2000 bail on Friday 6 March.
Police said the suspect was arrested in Ladismith, about 250km from Plett, on Thursday 13 February.
It is alleged the man raped the young girl during the festive season when she visited him and his wife.
Pojie said the teenager reported the incident to her mother upon her return home in Jansenville in the Eastern Cape.
The bail application was postponed several times and concluded in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court on Friday when he was released on R2000 bail.
Along with his bail application the organisation SA Women Fight Back submitted a petition with more than 4000 signatures in a campaign to see bail denied.
