PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay women have begun investing in their wellbeing through a newly established Women's Wellness Forum.
And come Saturday 27 October, these women will be discussing the topic "redefining beauty" during an event at The Winter Lounge at The Plettenberg Hotel.
The forum was established by local businesswoman Rose Scott after realising that women often neglect their own wellbeing to take care of the needs of others.
"Women often feel selfish if they do stake a claim to personal time, space and money," Scott said.
She added that it was of far greater benefit to each woman, and the multiple lives they touch, to learn to integrate self-care and personal wellbeing with their "expected" responsibilities and duties. "I believe that entire markets lie ready to be tapped when women receive the message that they cannot give or do for others what they do not have.
"To draw water from a well, the well cannot be dry. In caring for themselves holistically, new products and services can be created to align with a new vision of what can benefit women and society. This happens when women accept that investing their time, money and energy in themselves generates higher returns from everything they do."
Scott said there are many conflicting messages and beliefs that keep women stuck in repeating patterns that do not serve women or society well.
"We are looking to create a platform of like-minded women who find their voice in creating positive alternatives to roles and systems that have not worked for decades. We aim to invite comment, insight and discussion on issues that we find challenging or confusing and have perhaps not voiced, as we risk being a lone voice in the wilderness," she said, adding that through the forum she wishes to create a community of women that relate to one another, and learn to leverage the mutual support, strengths and skills to create a "legacy of hope".
On Saturday there will be several speakers to inspire women including Scott, Vivienne Jacobz (sculptor and business owner) and Heidi Kidd (a family attorney, mediator and counsellor).
