GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Siyanda Dlamini, who is doing a Walk for Peace throughout South Africa, will be home for Christmas.
His visits to Knysna and Plettenberg Bay on Sunday and Monday, 11 and 12 December, were part of his second round of visiting towns and cities in South Africa with his message of peace and stability to the citizens of the country.
But he wants to be at home in Mandeni in KwaZulu-Natal for Christmas, so he will be leaving for Durban by bus after Plettenberg Bay – and one person who certainly looks forward to his homecoming is his son, Zwelethu, who will receive a donated laptop from his dad.
Dlamini, a musician, arranges a programme in every town he visits "to listen to the people and try and resolve their problems". The aim of his walk is to find leaders that will bring the country together, he says.
His other messages along the way are to encourage people to use the land to produce food to feed themselves, and the need to clean up the rivers of South Africa so that people can drink clean water from them.
"We need to protect and clean our rivers," he says. Dlamini, who was hosted by the Plett Tourism Association while in Plettenberg Bay, said his spiritual experience has been the biggest plus that he has taken from his journeys and meeting people from all walks of life – from the poor to the more affluent.
In Plett he had breakfast with Bitou Mayor Dave Swart, and other guests invited by the Plett Tourism Association. But he still has one dream to fulfill after he completes his walks from Durban to Soweto. He wants to Walk the USA.
"My dream is to walk the USA for World Peace. We need to find the leaders that will bring humanity together. Everyone is a child of God and we need to bring people together and develop the world for everyone," he says.
A special outcome of his walking campaign was that he smoothed the way for building and renovating a school in Nongoma with the buy-in from the Department of Education and business funding.
