PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Opportunities are knocking for Plettenberg Bay artists and businesses as this year’s Plett Arts Festival is taking shape.
Plett Tourism is inviting artists and businesses to become part of the 11th edition of the popular festival dedicated to showcasing the creative and cultural side of the coastal holiday town. It is a 10 day-long celebration of live performances, workshops, exhibitions, culinary skills and other festivities.
While the festival is taking place from 20 to 29 September, applications to participate close on 31 July.
Plett Tourism said that those who wanted to participate through music and performance shows as well as workshops should note that these may include any discipline and genre of performance arts including music, theatre, dance and poetry.
Advertising, marketing and media for the Plett Arts Festival will be managed by Plett Tourism at no cost to participants. Participants will be responsible for the marketing of their own events in addition to the Plett Tourism marketing effort. Plett Tourism chief executive Patty Butterworth said there were no costs to participants for being a partner in the festival.
“If you have sponsors, Plett Tourism can include exposure for them on the website.” Tickets sales for events will also be the responsibility of the participant.
“A link to your online tickets can be added to your information on the Plett Arts Festival website, or your contact details.”
Butterworth added that this year’s programme will include some old favourites and some new additions. A highlight of the programme is the Plett Arts Twilight Meander, when the town’s Main Street celebrates sunset with live music, pop-up art exhibitions, street performances and tasty treats.
Another firm festival favourite is Plett Food and Film, which includes the pairing of celebrated films with dishes that have been inspired by them.
Another highlight that will be back this year, is the Plett Land Art Route, which involves artwork that is a part of and created from natural materials and the surroundings of Plettenberg Bay.
It lasts only as long as time and tide allow. During the Plett Arts Festival local and visiting artists including performers, chefs, designers, painters, sculptors, crafters and more will also showcase and share their creativity across all of Plett’s neighbourhoods and townships.
The festival will also include the African Waves Arts Festival, merging indigenous cultural music genres, from ancient Khora to hip-hop, from traditional Riel dancing to rap rhythms.
New to the programme in 2024 is the n Yolande Stander addition of a tattoo exhibition and event, and returning after a four-year hiatus, will be the workshops and seminars of the Plett Winter School.
