KNYSNA NEWS - The province-wide taxi strike continues this morning in Knysna, causing disruption of service delivery in certain parts of town.
The strike continues as no agreement has been reached yet between the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government.
In a statement released by Knysna Municipality this morning, Monday 7 August, that the delivery of water services to Hornlee will be challenged today.
"Please note that the Hornlee area will experience challenges in water services this morning due to the N2 being gridlocked by taxis from the Lamco side down toward Knysna CBD. This affects the supply to the critically low Noetzie reservoir, which serves lower Hornlee, and the system takes time to recover. Our technical team will make every effort to provide water to the affected areas, prioritising the safety of our personnel," the statement reads.
"Additionally, services in the northern areas will also be affected due to closures related to the ongoing taxi strike. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and assure you that we are working to minimise the impact on essential services. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary."
The unrest is a carry-over from the strike that started last week and ran into the weekend with riots taking place on the N2 at Nekkies as well.
The N2 through Nekkies remains open, and while taxis continue to form a blockade on the N2 through town, thoroughfare is still possible via Waterfront Drive. Motorists are however still urged to exercise caution and to account for extended travel time due to the strike.
The situation on the N2 at Nekkies remains volatile and could flare up at any moment. KPH will keep readers informed as reports are received.
