KNYSNA NEWS - Carmen's School of Dance completed their dance year last Friday and Saturday evening, with an original production inspired by the movie The Little Mermaid.
The storyline of the school's production, and the concept behind it, are the creations of studio owner Carmen de Sousa.
She said of the production: "We find ourselves in the watery kingdom and renew our acquaintance with familiar characters.
'Little starfish stolen'
"The story revolves around the little starfish, portrayed by Onikwa Tyhawana, a favourite of the main character, Ariel, danced by Celyn Godfrey, who is stolen by the sea witch, Ursula - danced by Danyelle Kolbe.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances of the dancers.
"Ariel and her two sisters, danced by Milani Magdala and Amber Trautmann respectively, go on an adventure to rescue and return the starfish back to their kingdom, leaving Sebastian, danced by Aneeqa Loxton, and Flounder, danced by Allegra van Zyl, to guard the kingdom."
'Beautiful scenes'
De Sousa said many new characters were brought into the storyline, and "beautiful and innovative" scenes created to simulate the deep sea.
"The bio-luminescent creature scene left the audience in awe of the skill displayed by the dancers," she said.
