Update
KNYSNA NEWS - There is still no clue as to the identity of a body found floating in a pond fringing Knysna's Akkerkloof Dam on Sunday 2 September, nor any notion of how it got there, according to Knysna police.
Last week, Knysna-Plett Herald reported that two locals found the corpse face down in a body of water, after which they notified police. At the time, police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the detective branch had opened an inquest docket but he could not provide more details pending a postmortem.
Most recently, Spies said the investigation was still ongoing. "The deceased, possibly in his sixties, was dressed in dark trousers, check shirt and a dark T-shirt with the words 'St James Church' written on the back at the time of the discovery," he said, adding that the results of the postmortem that had since been conducted cannot be revealed until the man's family has been located.
Spies is appealing to the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the investigation, or help trace the deceased's family. Contact investigating officer Sergeant Francois Kleyn on 044 302 6652.
Partly to allay fears that the corpse had sullied Knysna's drinking water, Spies stressed that it was not found inside the water of the Akkerkloof Dam as such but rather in a "pool of water near the Akkerkloof Dam".
Experts have also pointed out that all water still passes through the purification plant.
