KNYSNA NEWS - With various organisations and entities taking precautions against Covid-19, Sanparks and Knysna Municipality have been doing preparations of their own.
Sanparks CEO Fundisile Mketeni said they would like to assure all staff and visitors to the parks that their health and wellbeing is of "critical importance". "It is for this reason that we are introducing measures to enhance hygiene protocols in accordance with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines," Mketeni said.
"Furthermore, we are working closely with a team of experts from the health and tourism sector to assess and guide interventions on a daily basis." He further indicated that he understood the level of uncertainty and anxiety associated with international travel, but assured the South African public that national parks will remain open and that they will be taking the necessary precaution to ensure visitor and staff safety. Knysna Municipality will also be taking certain precautions, according to spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhout.
"We will implement an internal Covid-19 action plan for the municipality that includes providing a budget for information dissemination; council meetings will continue as scheduled but access will be limited; all budget/IDP meetings have been cancelled, people will be assisted to submit their inputs in writing; all public meetings and events in excess of 100 people will be cancelled until further notice," Bezuidenhout said.
He added that a number of services such as credit control, permits and the housing helpdesk will be available in the municipal town hall, a more accessible and open space, and that key personnel will be provided with off-site access to the municipal ICT network to ensure service delivery can continue without disruption.
