KNYSNA NEWS - A local business has joined hands with the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists (EEFYS) in the Eden Karoo region, coming on board as a prize sponsor ahead of the regional competition at Outeniqua High School in George on 29 and 30 July.
The support comes courtesy of the stationery shop division at Daisy Business Solutions' Knysna branch.
Provincial administrative assistant for EEFYS Sonet Strydom was grateful for the donation. "We really appreciate businesses such as Daisy coming on board to help in this way.
"Without kind donations such as this one we are unable to have prizes and reward the young academic stars at the expo," she said.
Stationery shop manager Lee-Anne Heyns was also happy to be assisting the expo. "We love getting involved with initiatives such as the expo for young scientists.
"It's great for us as we're able to lend a hand with rewarding the bright scientific stars of tomorrow," she said.
Gearing up towards the expo in late July, the EEFYS has hosted several teacher/learner day camp sessions and special online sessions earlier this year.
During these sessions educators and learners were equipped with a better understanding of project content and their research.
A total of 10 primary schools and 16 high schools have participated in this year's science expo thus far.
Local business and universities can become part of the showcase and assist with a variety of prizes (13 categories and many bright children to cover) which are the drawing card for striving towards quality projects and research. For more information, contact Strydom at sonetstrydom62@gmail.com.
