Major Sheila Palmer joined the SAPS on Valentine's Day 23 years ago, on February 14, 1991. She is originally from East-London and was transferred to Knysna SAPS in 1999 when she was a warrant officer. Palmer was promoted to the rank of captain in 2009 and was appointed as the administrative commander. Palmer holds a diploma in policing and a B-Tech degree in policing. She will take up her new post as the support head of Plettenberg Bay SAPS on March 31.
Major Xolile Gogwana has served in the South African Police for 19 years since he started his career at the Kareedouw Police on January 10, 1995. Major Gogwana's relocated to the Knysna Police in 2005 when he was promoted to the rank of captain and took up the position of shift commander. Gogwana has been the acting head of the Visible Policing Unit in Knysna since December 2012. He has now taken over the reins as head of that unit at Knysna SAPS.
Plettenberg Bay's Kumbulele Shorance Ntongana will be leaving Plett to take up a position at Manenberg in Cape Town on April 1.
Major Ntongana joined the SAPS on May 6, 1991. He became a detective as a member of the Gugulethu Crime Investigation Unit in 1995. In August 2011 he moved to Plett and joined the Plettenberg Bay Detective Branch.
"We would like to wish him well with his new post," said SAPS media liaison, Marlene Pieterse.
SAPS media liaison, Sharon Simons, explained that whenever posts are advertised, any SAPS member who qualifies can apply for the post. Suitable members are then short-listed and interviewed by a panel in the relevant province, who will then recommend the suitable candidate.
