KNYSNA NEWS - Once a teenage mother facing the harsh realities of life on her own, Lynn Kayster has become a beacon of hope and strength in her community.
Known as a passionate advocate for victims of gender-based violence, Kayster uses her personal experience to speak up for those who feel unheard.
Now a successful entrepreneur in the sewing industry, Kayster reflects on her journey, from battling postpartum depression to overcoming trauma and building a life rooted in purpose.
"A doctor once told me, 'Lynn, I believe your destiny will find you'," she recalls. "That stayed with me. And today, I can say my destiny has truly found me."
She fondly recalls one of her proudest moments during the Covid-19 pandemic, a time of uncertainty and fear. "I had my doubts about how I was going to make it through," she says. But instead of giving in to fear, she obtained the necessary certification to legally operate her small business. It became a turning point. "It was a godsend," she says. "I was able to create jobs, generate an income, and put food on the table - not just for my family, but for others as well."
Kayster is also well known for her commitment to human rights. Always at the forefront of community issues, she actively educates others about their rights and the laws that protect them. Whether through workshops, outreach programmes, or one-on-one conversations, she ensures that no one feels powerless or uninformed.
She believes her difficult past was not in vain. "My experiences paved the way for me to stand up and fight for what is right," she says. "They gave me the understanding to truly help others and the strength to speak out."
Despite all she has achieved, Kayster remains grounded and open to growth. "I learn something new every day," she says.
"And that's what keeps me moving forward - learning, growing, and helping others do the same." She believes in the power of perseverance and purpose. Through every challenge, she has remained committed to lifting others, especially women, encouraging them to follow their passions despite the odds.
"When it gets tough, your passion will carry you," she says. "It's what will help you not only survive - but thrive."Lynn Kayster, the voice for the voiceless. Photo: Rozano Alie
