KNYSNA NEWS - Pam Golding Properties Knysna has successfully concluded its 67 Days of Literacy Love campaign, making a contribution towards fulfilling the need for books among young readers within the local community.
Inspired by the legacy of Nelson Mandela, and the call to action to individuals, communities and organisations, to take time to reflect on Man-dela's values and principles and to make a positive impact in their communities, the campaign started in July and ended with a handover in September.
25 children
The beneficiaries of this year's initiative were the 25 preschool children at Hlalani Preschool, an ECD facility partnered with the Knysna Education Trust and Iris Ministries.
The school serves children from the Nekkies community, and thanks to the collective efforts of the Knysna community, the campaign was able to donate 282 pre-loved children's books, 25 reading cushions, and a painting by local artist Nathalie Wessels.
Reading corner
In addition, a cosy reading corner was created at the preschool, providing the young learners with a special space to explore the world of stories.
Siphokazi Buzuku, the head teacher of Hlalani Preschool, said: "Thank you so much for creating such a beautiful, warm and colourful reading corner for us.
"The kids are so excited about it and I'm so impressed seeing them picking different books, sharing and communicating with each other. It has boosted their love of and interest in reading."
Power of books
Pam Golding Properties Knysna firmly believes in the transformative power of books and their ability to ignite a child's imagination, transporting them to worlds where anything is possible.
