KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has installed 82 LED streetlights costing R766 698,17 in the Brackenhill area.
Mayor Elrick Van Aswegen said the project, which started in October 2020, also employed local labourers.
“A very integral part of our mission is to improve the lives of those residents who need basic service delivery the most,” he said.
The project was divided into three sections: A, B and C.
“A and C were completed and connected in December 2020. The final inspection was conducted in mid-December 2020. Section B was connected on 23 March 2021 and completed and inspected on 1 April 2021,” said Van Aswegen.
Addressing the Brackenhill community on Tuesday, Van Aswegen thanked them for their patience.
“You have been in the dark for so long. We may take streetlights for granted, but they are vital. They don’t only serve as lights but also as a deterrent that gives us some comfort and relief, and serve as a safety net. Not only will these ensure a safer community, but they will ensure that all road users, motorists, and pedestrians are safe,” he said.
Brackenhill resident Liezel Harker said this is a huge pleasure, especially for their children. “They can enjoy playing outside a little bit longer and feel safer,” she said.
Residents are asked to report faulty streetlights to the electrical department on 044 302 6397.
