PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS – The spotlight shone brightly on Plettenberg Bay last week when footage shot here featured on the popular Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan.
Not only were some of the show's favourite characters seen enjoying the area's natural beauty, including Stanley Island and Cathedral Rock, but a Plett Tourism officer, Emily Potgieter, also featured as an extra.
The episodes were broadcast on 15 and 16 March and saw popular characters Vanessa and Denzil enjoying a short break along with couple Werner and Tanya.
They enjoy a ferry trip along Keurbooms River and frolic on the beach near Cathedral Rock. The latter also serves as a backdrop for when Denzil pops the question to Vanessa and a wedding ceremony on a ferry follows with Potgieter officiating.
The decision to film on location on Stanley Island and around Plettenberg Bay was made to showcase the beauty of South Africa's unique locations, and to offer viewers a different perspective of the country.
"7de Laan has always been about celebrating the beauty of South Africa, and showcasing the unique aspects of our country to our viewers," said Thandi Ramathesele, the show's executive producer.
"Filming in Plettenberg Bay allows us to do just that, and we're excited to share this breathtaking location with our audience," added Frances Maposa, 7de Laan's line producer.

Siyabonga Mkhize, the director of these episodes, said working closely with the Bitou Municipality and Plett Tourism teams was an absolute pleasure.
"Together we were able to capture the beauty of Plettenberg Bay in all its glory. The community was warm and welcoming, which made our experience all the more memorable.
"Stanley Island is a private island and nature reserve that lies nestled in a crook of the Keurbooms River in Plett.
"Plett has been a location of choice for many international and South African films," said Plett Tourism operations manager, Cindy Wilson-Trollip.
"The productions inject a significant economic contribution. It was a pleasure to welcome one of South Africa's favourite soapies to our shores."
This is not the first time Plett served as the backdrop for films, music videos, reality TV shows and documentaries. Industry experts believe that the coastal town ticks all the boxes, including natural beauty and a film-friendly attitude from local authorities.
