KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipality said on Sunday 16 March that the water supply to residents in Heatherdale Street, Hornlee and other affected residents had been "temporarily restored" after a landslide damaged water pipes and destroyed parts of the street.
"A few houses have been impacted, and there is also a concern regarding nearby power lines," the municipality said.
'Contractor deployed'
"A contractor has been deployed to secure the area, ensuring the safety of residents and municipal workers."
Before reporting that the water supply had been restored temporarily, the municipality said water trucks "continue to provide relief to affected residents".
The mayor, Thando Matika, assessed the damage caused by the landslide.
In a separate release, the municipality said "since taking office, (Matika) has committed to dedicating Fridays to site visits alongside senior management".
'Three key sites visited'
"This initiative aims to gain firsthand insight into the challenges faced by communities across Greater Knysna and to develop practical solutions.
"Today (Friday 14 March), the mayor, joined by the municipal manager, mayco members, and senior management, visited three key sites: the Old Dumpsite, Knysna Water Treatment Works, and Sanlam Mall.
"These visits focused on assessing the issues affecting each area, setting clear timeframes for resolution, and engaging with residents to ensure their voices are heard."
Matika said: "Being present in our communities allows us to truly understand the challenges our residents face.
"We cannot make meaningful change from a distance. We are committed to improve lives and create a brighter future for everyone in Greater Knysna."
