KNYSNA NEWS - A fire beneath power lines in the Rheenendal area has led to a widespread power outage that is is affecting the entire greater Knysna municipal area as well as Plettenberg Bay.

The fire struck up earlier this afternoon, and firefighters are still at the scene extinguishing the fire. 

According to a Knysna Municipality media release, this is the reason for the widespread power outage in Knysna, Sedgefield and Plett.

"Eskom has indicated that the power has not been restored due to the fire beneath the [Schaapkop/Leeuwenbosch] power lines," the release indicated. "Firefighters are on-site busy extinguishing the fire. The affected areas include: Karatara, Rheenendal, Sedgefield, Knysna, Robberg and Plettenberg Bay. They will restore power as soon as it is safe."

The municipality also indicated that there is no timeframe as yet when it comes to the restoration of power.
