KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality will soon launch a series of temporary repair projects along key sections of Waterfront Drive, as well as Grey, Rawson, Mortimer and Clyde streets.
"The work will focus on stabilising areas affected by underground soil movement, repairing damaged sewer manholes, and addressing locations at risk of developing sinkholes," said Richard Martin, Acting Municipal Manager.
According to Martin the first phase of repairs is set to commence on Wednesday 26 November, starting at the Grey and Rawson Street intersection, with work continuing into early December to ensure the routes remain safe and functional ahead of the festive season. B&V Contractors has been appointed to carry out the repairs.
Martin explained that each intersection will require about three days of work, though more complex locations, such as Mortimer Street, may take longer due to the need for dewatering and ground stabilisation.
"Our sewer network is largely hidden, but it's fundamental to the day-to-day operation of the CBD. It underpins business activity, service delivery, traffic circulation and overall community well-being," he said.
"We recognise that temporary closures and detours can be inconvenient, but acting now helps us prevent unexpected road failures and more severe infrastructure damage down the line."
He said that, while these short-term disruptions may be challenging, they are essential to strengthening our underground infrastructure.
"Completing this work now will help keep Knysna safe, functional and prepared for the upcoming holiday season. We appreciate the community's patience and ask all road users to proceed with caution around construction areas."
