KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Municipality is investigating the possibility of constructing a storage dam at Kruisvallei.
Council has approved the construction in principle, and the project is currently in the implementation readiness preparation stage. OZutari (Pty) Ltd (previously the African subdivision of the Aurecon Group) began exploring the opportunities of augmenting the bulk supply of water for the Knysna municipal area in 2020.
The investigation services included site reconnaissance, detailed topographical mapping, preliminary geotechnical and material investigations, a dam feasibility assessment, environmental and social screening, heritage and biodiversity specialist studies and lobbying for funding.
Residents of Buffelsnek, who have been living without a reliable supply of potable water since the current Kruisvallei Dam was structurally damaged in 2020, are optimistic about the progress made in securing running water for them.
They hope that this will also lead to other infrastructural issues in the area also being addressed.
