KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna resident Benjamin Jacobsen embarked on a life-changing adventure on 18 January; a 100km run that began at Storms River and ended beyond the iconic Garden of Eden on the N2.
This monumental challenge, which was on his bucket list, wasn't just about distance; it was about testing the limits of mind and body.
Starting at 22:00, Jacobsen set off into the night, accompanied by a group of marshals who would support him throughout the journey.
With occasional food stops and bathroom breaks, Jacobsen ran through the dark hours, finding solace in the rhythm of his steps and the quietude of the night.
Along the way, a few of his friends joined him at intervals, offering companionship, encouragement, and motivation during the gruelling stretch.
By 13:00 on Sunday, 19 January, after more than 13 hours of running, Jacobsen crossed the finish line, marking the completion of his remarkable 100km quest.
It was a moment of triumph, not just for him but for the friends and family who had supported and cheered him on from near and far.
'Thought I couldn't shake'
When asked how he would describe the experience, Jacobsen shared:
"It was amazing. Running has always been a personal experience for me. A time to be alone with my thoughts and surroundings.
"Especially here in the Garden Route. This was something I'd wanted to do as far back as I can remember. A thought I couldn't shake.
"My takeaway from the experience is that we are all capable of extraordinary things. But perhaps we get comfortable in our day-to-day lives and don't test ourselves often enough.
"Be curious and do the things that put a bit of fear in you. There is so much to learn in the unknown, but not if you don't go."
Family, friends
His family and friends are incredibly proud of his feat, celebrating not only his athleticism, but also the strength of his character.
