KNYSNA NEWS - Two men, one of whom is a lawyer from Knysna, were killed in a shooting on a smallholding in Vioolsdrift at about 04:30 on Monday 30 October.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the two were part of a group of four and were visiting a friend when the incident happened.
"During the early hours of the morning neighbours heard gunshots and went to the smallholding to investigate. Upon arrival, the owner of the smallholding allegedly admitted to shooting two men and wanted to hand himself over to the police," Ehlers said.
Law Enforcement responded to the scene and discovered two injured men, who were transported to a hospital in an ambulance.
"The suspect, identified as 59-year-old Jacob Dawid Malan Claassens, was apprehended and taken into custody. On Tuesday 31 October, Claassens appeared in the Springbok Magistrate's Court. He will remain in custody until his bail hearing, which is scheduled for Tuesday 7 November," Ehlers said.
Yesterday, Wednesday 1 November, the two victims, aged 54 and 56 years old, succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Upington.
"The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation," Ehlers said.
Although known to KPH, the identity of the deceased cannot be published until the family has identified the body.
