KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna High School's first boys hockey team delivered a spirited performance against highly rated Stellenberg in a gripping encounter at the final Oakhill Hockey and Netball Festival, played on Knysna's astro turf last Friday.
In an intense match, Knysna looked set for a memorable victory after racing into a commanding 3-1 lead.
The home side showed composure and sharp finishing to put themselves firmly in control against a Stellenberg team ranked among the top 10 hockey schools in South Africa.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the closing stages.
Stellenberg mounted a determined comeback, striking twice in the final ten minutes to level the match at 3-3 and snatch a share of the spoils.
While the match ended in a draw, Knysna High will feel this was a win that slipped through their fingers after such a dominant position for much of the contest. Even so, their performance against elite opposition attested to their growing confidence on the field.
