KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipality has acknowledged receipt of Bredell’s letter of “dissolution “.
Knysna mayor Thando Matika repeated an earlier statement on 27 June that “we fundamentally disagree with this course of action, as it is not in the best interests of Knysna or its people”.
He said council anticipated the Western Cape Provincial Cabinet’s decision and has already “resolved to pursue a course of action”.
“Residents are urged to be cautious of misinformation. Council has not yet been dissolved, and residents should rely solely on official communication from the municipality,” said Matika.
He said a detailed statement will be issued “in due course”.
DA response
The DA has welcomed the decision to place Knysna under administration, saying it was “a step in the right direction” for the town.
Ryan Smith, DA constituency head for Knysna said it was a welcome move for an impartial administrator to now take over the management of the town’s basic service delivery, which has collapsed under the ANC/EFF/PA/PBI/KIM coalition.
“The DA cares deeply about Knysna and we will continue to work tirelessly to win back a stable political majority in the town to restore service delivery excellence and regain Knysna’s status as the jewel of the Garden Route,” said Smith.
